I have 2 currently- a Lowe's card because I was young and needed credit for a washer and dryer, this is my oldest card and I am definitely not getting rid of it, the second is (was? Long story, I'm 99% sure it's still active but it's been a pain in the ass the last month) a credit union card with no extra perks. I've gotten my credit card spending under control, not using them except for once a month and then pay off the statement balance. Partly because I'm unsure on where I am with the credit union card and partly because I want to start taking advantage of perks, I'm looking for a card. I want some good perks, but I'm not too concerned about whether I have a smaller or larger limit- I won't be using it for every purchase all the time. Annual income is ~46k which is comfortable for where I live but my credit score is at 675 because my credit union card was cancelled (long story). It should be reinstated but hasn't been reported to my credit report yet. Before that it was roughly 720 or so.
I have a discover card I've been on top of over the last 5-6 months (I'm 22yo). I managed to get to 712 credit score and am interested in opening another card to continue building my credit. Any suggestions?
Press J to jump to the feed. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts I am a student looking to get a better credit view sad I found my credit score to be around 850. Right now I just have 1% cash back but am looking for something better. My income is low < 30 000/ year. level 1 Tangerine MasterCard is pretty good, you get 2% back on 3 categories that you can choose from. level 2 A lot of people on here get rejected for that card for almost no reason, I don't know if a student is going to get it. level 1 How the heck did you get your score to 850 as a student? level 2 Well I've been a student for 4 years now and have consistently paid my credit card bills every single month Welcome to PersonalFinanceCanada Reddit Inc © 2021. I skimmed the wiki first I promise. Keep it under 30% utilization, pay it each month once the statement goes up but before the due date so it builds my credit. Background: recently got a car, financed it, blah blah, so there's 8 or so hard inquiries on my credit. Due to this, I'd planned to hold off on applying for a credit card until January or so. Which would also let me get a few car payments in to help diversify my credit history. Never had a credit card. I applied for one with chase mid-may, which disappeared into the ether so I'm guessing I was denied or my application expired before I sent over the info they requested. Card details: Was prequalified by the letter in the mail Details Card: Capital one quicksilver 1. 5% cashback, unlimited (hmm) 0% apr until 07/21 (cute) 26. 99% apr after that (christ that's high) Transfers & cash advance: 26. 99% Annual fee: none So, is this a good offer? Afaik my credit score these auto loan folks got was in the low 700s. All I have tied to my name (before the car) was student loans, which are on ice per the feds now, but I've been paying each month since January, sometimes twice I month.
Hello I am a 20 year old male who does not like the idea of having a credit card very much. I don't make a ton of money right now, nor do I spend terribly much (Maybe like $800-1000/month more or less). I currently have no credit cards and no credit score, but I realize that if I want to move my family (wife and dog) into a kind of decent apartment, I will probably need one. I'd like to stay away from a family members credit card as their credit scores are almost as bad as their spending habits and I want no part in that. Basically, what is a good credit card (or something like chime I guess, I don't know) for someone in my situation?
If you are looking for card that offer reward points, Qantas everyday master card (I have this one) if you don't mind paying $49 annual fee. Please note that a friend of mine has only this card for 5 years. After spending 20k-40k per year on his credit card for 3 years, Qantas offered him to fully waive annual fee on his card going forward. If you are looking for no annual fee credit card, Citibank offer no annual fee credit cards (I have this one too). Amex Qantas card comes without annual fee too (I have this one too) but I have to be careful with this card and ask if they have special surcharge for Amex card every time before I use that card. Some store charge around 3% surcharge on Amex card but no surcharge applies on Master card or Visa.

Looking to start using credit cards Many good cards tend to want at least 1 year of history with any other card first. If you have no credit card history before, I'd follow: My recommended list of starter cards (if you can't get one tier, move down to the next): Student cards. Many large names have student cards worth considering. Some may not even require you to be a student. Your bank/credit union, anything from Discover. (Optional, may choose to skip this and go straight to the next) Maybe either Capital One's Platinum or Quicksilver One. These aren't great cards and may be assigned a poor "bucket" (look up Capital One's bucketing system). Secured cards (use as a last resort only). Discover's is recommended for easy graduation and having cash back.
