By David Snowball One of the charms of our country is all of the stuff we don't ask. Our federal census does not, and has not since the 1950s (quick thanks to David Moran for his insight into census history), asked people about their religious preference or practices. That's good because it's none of the guvmint's damned business. It's also bad because religion is an important element of our individual and collective culture; in the absence of official estimations, a host of (sometimes laughably inept) unofficial calculations substitute. The Pew Research Center (2018) estimates that there are "3. 45 million Muslims of all ages living in the U. S. in 2017 and that Muslims made up about 1. 1% of the total U. population. " Pew is both professional and cautious, and their explanation of their methodology struck me as clear and reasonable so I'm willing to take it as a decent ballpark estimate. Faithful Muslim investors are constrained to follow sharia law in selecting their investments. While the term "sharia" immediately triggers negative associations in most Americans' minds – black burkas, oppression, extremism, and all that – as an investing discipline its remarkably sensible and benign: Avoid investing in morally offensive activities, including businesses that sell porn, violent video games, alcohol, and so on.
Signing the document just says that I received it and it's still subject to change not counting my locked rate. I would have called back to ask but it was after 6 when I saw the doc. I'm supposed to close in about 3 weeks so i'm slightly nervous about it all. I'm new to all this and doing everything on my own... not counting the help in this subreddit.
What do I need? To apply for a VA loan, you will need to apply for a certificate of eligibility. There may be forms to complete, and active veterans will need a statement of service. Requirements may vary a bit for surviving spouses, National Guard, or Reservists. You will also need to prove that you will be living in the home you are trying to finance through a VA loan. These loans cannot be used to finance investment property. Does my credit score matter? The VA does not have a minimum credit score requirement. However, the private lenders through whom the loan will be made might have their own minimums. Borrowers with a credit score lower than 620 will want to look for a lender who will still make the loan and from whom that can still get a decent interest with a lower credit score. Can I use a co-signer? If the active military or veteran is legally married, then their spouse can co-sign the loan. Two unmarried military members can also co-sign together with no adverse ramifications.
